Luan

| Race: Wood Elf | Class: Moon Druid |
A wood elf druid who harnesses the power of nature. Luan can shapeshift into various creatures, including a direwolf form which he used to help the party travel through the cursed forests of Barovia. His connection to nature and wild shape abilities make him a versatile member of the party.
Luan speaks and reads Druidic, the secret language of druids — this knowledge proved essential when discovering the mountain entrance, which was protected by druidic script and riddles meant to keep knowledge from the uninitiated. He cast Long Strider on Zoran during the mountain journey, enhancing his movement speed.
Bonded with Gary
In Session 20, Luan bonded with Gary, a water elemental encountered at the mountain entrance. What started as a playful puddle following Luan has grown into something more substantial. Gary sacrificed much of his essence to save Zoran from the blood altar, diluting the blood flow and sealing wounds. In doing so, Gary evolved from a curious droplet into a more powerful companion. Gary shows signs of consciousness and intention (though not quite a full mind), responding to Detect Thoughts with “purpose” and “direction.”
Marked by the Blood Altar
When Luan touched Zoran during the blood altar incident in an attempt to pull him free, Zoran’s transformed blood left a mark. Luan now bears a red rusty rash where he made contact with Zoran, as if the transformed blood burned him. The mark remains visible in Session 21. In that same session, Luan examined Zoran with medicine skills and confirmed that he should have died from the blood loss but instead looks healthier than ever — “peak physical” condition that defies medical explanation.

Session 23: The Kobold Revolution
In Session 23, Luan played a crucial support role in the battle against Gluttony. He cast Enlarge on Brannor, transforming the already massive paladin into a huge creature radiating golden sunlight. This made Brannor even more imposing and powerful on the battlefield.
Luan himself transformed into his massive bear form, but this wasn’t an ordinary bear — his fur had turned a vibrant green with fey-touched qualities, suggesting his time in Barovia and connection to Gary had changed him. While in this form, he used his Stars Druid abilities to fire starry wisps from his eyes, dealing radiant damage to Gluttony from range.
He co-led the Choir platoon (the “Improv Guys”) alongside Grusnarv, commanding 20 kobolds who provided 1d8 temporary hit points to allies each round through their improvised songs. These kobolds were also armed with Grusnarv’s silver cutlery, dealing double damage with their improvised weapon attacks.
Throughout the battle, Luan’s versatility showed — switching between offensive spellcasting, supporting allies with temporary hit points, and maintaining concentration on the Enlarge spell that kept Brannor at his most powerful size. His green-furred bear form became an iconic sight on the battlefield alongside the sun-radiating paladin.
