Umal Thelyss

| Race: Half-Elf, Half-Drow | Class: Bladesinger Wizard |
A bladesinger wizard of mixed heritage, Umal Thelyss has lighter purple-brownish skin that marks his dual ancestry — caught between the surface elves and the drow of the Underdark. His long white hair is a striking feature, flowing as he weaves blade and spell together in the bladesinging tradition.
Umal hails from Rosohna, bringing knowledge and magical prowess to the party. He is the grandson of Den Matron Dierta Thelyss, matriarch of House Thelyss, one of the mage houses in the Dynasty’s capital.
Banishment and the Scrambled Eggs
Umal’s journey with the party began with exile and deception.
In Rosohna, he was caught conducting forbidden research on betrayer gods — a crime serious enough to warrant execution in the Kryn Dynasty. He was publicly sentenced to death, with the execution to be carried out outside beacon range as is customary for such severe crimes.
But his cousin Essek Thelyss intervened behind the scenes. Because executions happen away from the city, outside the range of the beacons, it was much easier to fake. Rather than allow the execution to proceed, Essek arranged for Umal to be secretly banished instead. As far as Rosohna knows, Umal Thelyss was taken away and executed — he is officially dead.
Cast out from his homeland and believed dead by his own people, Umal made his way to the Menagerie Coast. He encountered the Scrambled Eggs on Brokenbank while running from guards. The adventurers took him in, and he joined them, finding new purpose with companions who didn’t care about his past transgressions or his forbidden curiosities.
The party has been together ever since, and Umal has kept his true identity and his death in Rosohna a carefully guarded secret.
Family Crisis
Umal’s father is dying from a mysterious toxin that evaporates blood cells — identified as coming from the legendary Creeping Death. The party has ventured into the Underdark to hunt this creature and retrieve its poison gland so an antidote can be made.
Mistaken Identity
In Session 71, Umal was attacked by Kaverick, a mage guard at the Thelyss Estate who was suffering from typhros (a madness from being reborn too many times). Kaverick mistook Umal for Jourrael Caedogeist, also known as the Inevitable End — a famous assassin and traitor from Dynasty history. The resemblance was from one of Kaverick’s past lives, a confusion that ultimately led to his execution.
